Our Breeding Philosophy
We take pride in the dogs we breed and want them to have the best life possible. We consider them to be a part of our family and treat them as such. Our breeding philosophy is to produce healthy, happy dogs with sound temperaments & bodies, and intelligent minds. We strive to produce top quality show dogs that closely adhere to the Shetland Sheepdog standard.
All of our breeding dogs, at home and afar, are tested for (and must pass) a variety of health tests before they are bred. For this reason, we offer a health guarantee for our puppies/dogs that they are free from hereditary defects for at least the first year of their life. Puppies are whelped & raised in our home and are handled daily from birth. We socialize extensively and temperament test each pup weekly from 4 weeks on up to help ensure each companion (pet) puppy is placed in an appropriate home – both for the sake of the puppy and the new owners. All puppies deemed “pet quality” are sold on a spay/neuter contract to approved homes.
We want every dog that we breed to live full & happy lives. Tremendous care and planning has gone into each breeding and eventually each puppy placement. Each puppy/dog comes with a "Puppy Pack" that includes an overnight bag for the puppy, a binder loaded with information to get both the new owners & the puppy off to a great start, a copy of the contract, a CD of pictures of the puppy/dog from birth (or if an adult dog, pictures of him/her while living here), a cuddle blanket, a new toy, and a bag of all-natural dog treats. If you ever have any questions, at any time during the life of your dog, we will be happy to help you in any way that we can.
We love keeping in touch with our puppy's new family; pictures and letters are always welcome and are encouraged. With permission, we will post pictures of your puppy in his new home on our website. The advantage of purchasing a puppy from a responsible breeder is that you can ask us questions at any time during the life of your dog. We are committed to taking care of our own from birth until death - they are part of our family. If at any time, for ANY reason you are unable to care for or keep your sheltie, he is ALWAYS welcome back at Kenset Shelties. We never want a sheltie to end up at the pound or a rescue organization. He will always have a home here.
